As for your blog, I relate with you so much it's blowing my mind. In this article this guy is warning people not to read the list of the following people... etc. I'm glad I didn't take his advice. I've seen behind the curtain too. It can be such a lonely place. :(Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11918887851647082174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7911721661121719073.post-15960311263596085212016-12-24T22:04:33.168-08:002016-12-24T22:04:33.168-08:00Yeah man, and no matter how bad you may want to th...Yeah man, and no matter how bad you may want to there's no going back. It's like trying to believe in Santa and his flying reindeer again. The narrative just can't find purchase anymore. You're outside of the bubble looking in now. You've come too far and learned too much.

I was happier when I believed in God, but before that I was happier when I believed in Santa Clause. It's just the adult position to actually care if it's true. It's getting better though. You have to broadcast your thoughts like we are doing now to forge new connections. You find others who also have the balls to risk eternal damnation for a few moments of clear, critical thought, uninhibited by fear or longing. Just a few moments and there's no going back. It feels like waking up on the wrong side of the bed, but take heart. There is coffee to look forward to.
Another way to look at it -You acclimate. It's like jumping in the pool. You shiver. Then you get used to it. Then you realize that being in the water is preferable to being out of it. You would wish you had jumped in sooner, but it's lonely. "Come on in. The water's fine." isn't very convincing to people who have been told that there are monsters underneath.
Here's the biggest reason why I prefer to swim. Sometimes I think about all of the people that are not going to be kept alive to feel the eternal pain of their burning flesh, and that's all the comfort I need. I'm so ashamed that I ever wanted that narritive to be true.
That thing tugging at you is two fold. It's sentiment and your survival instinct. We long for the familiar. It's predictable and therefore comfortable. Also, we evolved to believe we can survive anything and to do anything to live There is no evolutionary benefit to being able to imagine our own non-existence. It doesn't matter. We die.
